CHICAGO (MarketWatch) — Science Applications International Corp., Splunk Inc., Zumiez Inc. and Pandora Inc. are among the stocks that could see active trading on Friday.
Science Applications International Corp. shares SAI +0.08% were up 8% in after-hours trading Thursday after it said its board approved splitting the company into two publicly traded companies.

Fall's smartphone storm

Samsung, Nokia and Sony are lining up their newest and shiniest smartphone for fall debuts, to coincide with Apple's expected iPhone 5 release.
Zumiez Inc. ZUMZ +2.06% shares fell as much as 10% in after-hours trading. The specialty retailer reported weaker-than-expected second-quarter earnings and a disappointing outlook for the third quarter.
Splunk SPLK -1.10% rose 12% in evening trading after the data-analytics company reported a surge in sales that beat Wall Street’s expectations.
Pandora P +14.29% shares rose 14% in Thursday’s regular session. and could be on the move again Friday. Late Wednesday, reported that it broke even on an adjusted per-share basis for the second quarter ended July 31, as revenue jumped to $89.4 million from the prior year’s $58.3 million. The Oakland, Calif., Internet radio-service provider issued a better-than-expected revenue forecast for the third quarter.
Geron GERN +9.13% shares rose 9% Thursday. Stifel Nicolaus analysts started the biotech company with a buy rating on Thursday morning.
